ultural Studies
                 of Science

This area of cultural studies is
              the most ideologically
sensitive of all, for science has
been, and still is, the totem of
              European secular culture. In
              the centuries-long struggle
              between the ideologues of
              science and those of religion,
              the central claim was that
              science uniquely had truth, as
              opposed to nonsense studies
              like theology and metaphysics.

                              The practice of science, as
                              with any form of disciplined
                              study, is profoundly shaped by
                              value commitments.
