                               raise the water into such diversions.
                                 Before arranging to pump out a stream, or building a flume or pipeline to carry it, its volume
                               of flow should be measured. This may be roughly done by placing a rectangular wood trough or
                               flume 15 to 20 feet long in the streambed, and packing around the upper end with mud so that all
