purpose, empirical methods of lsotherm analysis are extremely useful. These
procedures are introduced in Chapters 6,7 and 8.
The pragmatic approach adopted in the following chapters involves the identifica-
tion and characterization of the various mechanisms of adsorption and pore filling.
By making use of standard data on well-defined adsorbents and proceeding step-by,
step, we endeavour to extract the maximum amount of useful information without
having to rely completely on any of the oversimplified models discussed in this
chapter.
