x Series Editor’s Preface

The contributors to this volume have worked together for several years
in close collaboration, and as a consequence they have produced a work
that is richly textured with details from the ethnographic field but also
theoretically coherent. Each chapter in the book can stand on its own, but
when read together, the chapters that comprise Aesthetic Formations make
a compelling argument for a transformed academic approach to religion in
the contemporary, globalized world. This book stages precisely the kind of
discussion this series was created to promote.
