rankings. The SCImago Group was founded by Fe ´lix de Moya Anegon,
who later became an external consultant for the group.
The default view of the SCImago website shows journals ranked
according to the SJR. The SCImago Journal Ranking is an indicator cal-
culated for all Scopus journals, which is similar to PageRank or to the
Eigenvector Score. The following indicators are also available for each
journal J: the journal h-index (calculated for the period since 1996); the
number of published documents (during the year Y shown on upper right
hand side, the number of documents published during the previous 3 years
(Y 2 3to Y 2 1); the number of references in journal J in the year Y, the
number of received citations in the year Y for articles published during
the publication window [Y 2 3; Y 2 1]; the number of
“citable documents” (these are: normal articles, review articles and con-
ference contributions); cites/per docs (2 year); the average number of
references; country. Viewing journals per subject category one sees the
quartile, according to the SJR, to which this journal belongs.
Scopus distinguishes 295 specific subfields, grouped in 27 subject areas
(among which an area called “General,” including the journals Nature and
Science). All journals are assigned to four large categories: Life Sciences
( .4300 journals), Physical Sciences ( .7200 journals), Social Sciences
( .5300 journals) and Health Sciences (about 6800 journals).
The following information is provided per journal:
Country—subject area—subject category or categories (in this data-
base too a journal may belong to several subject categories)—the quartile
(calculated per subject category) to which this journal’s SJR belongs—
publisher—coverage (period)—ISSN—h index.
A number of graphs related to a journal can be viewed.
• SJR versus cites/doc (2 year) over a period of 10 year (if available)
• Number of citations versus number of (journal) self-citations (over a
period of 3 year) again shown over 10 years.
• The same information, now per document.
• The synchronous impact factor (cites per doc) using a 3 and 4-year
publication window.
• International collaboration 5 percentage of documents containing
addresses in different countries.
• The relation between citable and noncitable documents.
• Percentages and numbers of cited and noncited documents.
SCImago also provides a country ranking, see http://www.scimagojr.
