Editors










                             Brian J. Lukey, PhD, has served 22 years in the U.S. Army Medical  Service
                             Corps and is an international authority in medical defense research. He has
                             served as the director of Military Operational Medicine, which focuses on
                             research involving methods to better handle stressors in warfare, includ-
                             ing excessive heat, cold, high altitude, and fatigue. Col. Lukey currently is
                             the Commander of the U.S. Army Medical Materiel Development Activity,
                             which manages advanced development of medical products for warfi ghters.

                             Victoria Tepe, PhD,   is a behavioral neuroscientist with 23 years of professional
                             research experience in academic, medical, and military settings. Her works
                             are widely published in biobehavioral sciences, including cognitive neuro-
                             psychology and human performance. In addition to this book, Dr. Tepe has
                             coedited The Science and Simulation of Human Performance (Elsevier, 2004)


                             and Warfighter’s Guide to Psychology and Performance (in preparation).
