XX Preface

This book is an attempt to collate information about the synthesis, properties,
and application opportunities of the most important biodegradable polyesters via
the experience and knowledge of a group of internationally known researchers.
We would like to thank all the contributors for their willingness to participate in
this project, their support, and their patience during the compilation work. The
Editor also wishes to thank the Centre for Advanced Composite Materials, Uni-
versity of Auckland for providing a range of facilities, as well as the Ministry of
