others probably deep. A remarkable number of these basins exist through more
than 35 degrees of present latitude-from Aden to the North Sea. Their evapo-
rites are all essentially Late Kimmeridgian-Tithonian in age. They are present in
the North Sea, North German basin, Paris basin, Aquitaine, western Moroccan
coastal basin, northern Caucasus foredeep, Kara Kum foredeep north of the EI-
burz, Basrah basin of Mesopotamia in eastern Iran, and in the Rub al Kali and
Aden basins of Arabia.
