Plate VI. Restricted and Open Marine Facies
(A) Coquina or grainstone of dasycladacean alga, Clypeina jurassica, standard
microfacies 18; facies 111, Chapter IX. Broken pieces of Clypeina and rotted,
round pieces of indistinguishable bioclasts represent sediments on shoals of shelf
areas of Arab cycles on the Arabian Shield. Moderate water energy is indicated.
Sample DK-51 (40) is from 6935-7050 feet in the Iraq Petroleum Company
Dukhan 51 well, from Arab D zone, Late Jurassic, southern edge of Qatar Penin-
sula, Arabia. Acetate peel, x 18
(B) Normal marine bioclastic, lithoclastic, thoroughly homogenized wacke-
stone, standard microfacies 9, facies P3, Chapter VII. Sample is from the Leaven-
worth limestone of central Kansas, number two limestone of Oread megacy-
clothem (see Fig. VII-6) and contains bioclasts of gastropods, coated crinoid
pieces, echinoid spines, platy fragments of algae or mollusks, numerous fusulinids,
and a few dark lithoclasts. Photograph is courtesy of D.F. Toomey, University of
