savings. Benefits, approaches, and some specific recommendations are made for the
following opportunities for improved corrosion practices.
1. Preventive strategies in nontechnical areas:
(a) Increase awareness of the considerable corrosion costs and potential sav-
ings.
(b) Change the misconception that nothing can be done about corrosion.
(c) Change policies, regulations, standards, and management practices to
increase corrosion cost-savings through sound corrosion management.
(d) Improve education and training of personnel in recognition of corrosion
control.
2. Preventive strategies in technical areas:
(a) Advance design practices for better corrosion management.
(b) Advance life prediction and performance assessment methods.
(c) Advance corrosion technology through research, development, and imple-
mentation.
