Check Bolted Seams
Standard factory-made pipe seams are satisfactory for all designs within the
maximum allowable wall stress of 16.5 ksi (113.8 MPa). Seams bolted in the
shop or field, however, continue to be evaluated on the basis of test values for
uncurved, unsupported columns. A bolted seam (standard for structural plate)
must have a test strength of twice the design load in the pipe wall.
