THE AUTHOR

Jiirgen Habermas, now a member of the Max-
Planck Institute in Starnberg, West Germany, was for-
merly professor of philosophy and sociology at the
University of Frankfurt am Main. He is the author of
four other books published by Beacon Press: Theory
and Practice, Knowledge and Human Interests, Toward
a Rational Society, and Legitimation Crisis.
