10-fold increase in linear dimension would result in physical collapse.
This is why giant robots are unwieldy and impractical, while small ones
are comparatively hardy and durable.
SECURITY ROBOT
The term security robot refers to any robot that assists in the protection of
people or property, particularly against crime. Security robots have existed
for decades. A simple version is the electronic garage-door opener. If you
lock yourself out of your house, you can gain entry through the garage
door if you have the control box in your possession. (So can anyone with
a control box that operates on the same frequency and has the same
signaling code.)
Mid-level security robots include intrusion alarm systems, electronic
door/gate openers that employ digital codes, and various surveillance
systems. These devices can discourage unauthorized people from entering
a property. If someone does gain entry, a mid-level system can detect the
presence of an intruder, usually by means of ultrasound, microwaves, or
lasers, and notify police through a telephone or wireless link.
