Patricia M. Berliner, Ph.D., is a New York State licensed psychologist
with private practice in Ozone Park, NY, and a member of Sisters of St.
Joseph of Brentwood, Long Island. She is a published author and has been
a member of New York State Psychological Association (NYSPA) Disaster
Response Team since 1993 and of the Red Cross Disaster Mental Health
Team since 1996. Dr. Berliner is a member of the Red Cross of Greater NY
Disaster Mental Health Leadership Team and a member of the advisory
board to the Dr. Phil TV program. She is the author of the book Touching
Your Lifethread and Revaluing the Feminine and many articles related to
mental health, spirituality, women’s issues, and disaster response.
Grant H. Brenner, M.D., is an adjunct clinical professor at Albert Einstein
College of Medicine and clinical instructor at the Mount Sinai School of
Medicine (New York City). He works in educational and supervisory capac-
ities at Beth Israel Medical Center, St. Vincent’s Catholic Medical Center,
and the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He is director of the Trauma
Service and chief psychiatric consultant at the William Alanson White
Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology, and Psychoanalysis and national volun-
teer lead for Disaster Psychiatry Outreach. Dr. Brenner completed 2 years
of general surgery residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and
psychiatry residency at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, where he received
the Richard L. Scharf, M.D., Memorial Award for Teaching Excellence in
Psychiatry. He is a graduate of both the psychoanalytic and organizational
programs at William Alanson White Institute in New York City.
Dr. Brenner is a Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine, a Fellow
of the American Academy of Dynamic Psychiatry and Psychoanalysis,
and a member of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and
Dissociation. He received the 2004 Gold Level President’s Volunteer Service
Award from the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation
for disaster work in New York. He lectures and teaches regularly about
