Page 14 - Cultural Competence in Health Education
P. 14
xiv Foreword
The Swahili word harambe means a coming together — not just physically but a
coming together of spirit, of mind, and on a common ground. This is what these authors
have accomplished in support of cultural competency for the American Association
for Health Education. We believe harambe is also what the authors wish for all health
education and promotion professionals and their clients or students.
The officers and staff of AAHE also wish to take this opportunity to recognize
Cultural Competence in Health Education and Health Promotion as the launch of the
American Association for Health Education/American Alliance for Health, Physical
Education, Recreation, and Dance joint publishing venture with Wiley/Jossey - Bass.
The anticipated outcome of this joint venture over a period of years is a series of books
under our own imprint — AAHE Press. We are delighted to acknowledge the outstand-
ing quality provided by Wiley/Jossey - Bass in health education, health promotion, and
public health publications, and we look forward to a partnership that will set the stan-
dard for many years.
