appropriate science teaching and resilience thinking in sustainability education. She
has developed early-years curriculum for the Wet Tropics Rainforest Explorer pro-
gram and has developed community partnerships involving preservice teachers and
local schools through Australian Government supported projects such as BirdNet,
Science on the Oval, and the Cattana Wetlands project. She breeds wild, native tree
frogs in the wet season to contribute to biodiversity restoration in urban Cairns and
finds great happiness in being an accidental herpetologist.
David Zandvliet is an associate professor in the faculty of education at Simon
Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada. His research interests lie in the areas of
science and environmental education and learning environments. He has conducted
studies in school-based locations in Australia, Canada, Malaysia, and Taiwan.
Dana L. Zeidler is a professor of science education at the University of South
Florida. He currently serves as president of the National Association for Research
in Science Teaching (2010-2011). His research program centers on theory develop-
ment and pedagogical implementation of socioscientific issues in science educa-
tion. His interests extend to the nature of science, epistemology, reflective judgment,
and moral and cognitive reasoning. He is also a Sensei of Isshinryu Karate practic-
ing the art for 27 years.
