Oil company/operator
Operations manager. Generally responsible for all operational matters
to do with drilling and production-related activities. Will most often take
overall command of the incident response team in the event of a major
incident such as explosion or blowout.
Drilling manager. The top drilling position in the country in most oil
companies. The drilling manager will report to the operations manager.
Responsibilities include the day-to-day running of the drilling department,
liaising with government authorities, overseeing the work of the senior
drilling engineers, and acting as the ultimate technical decision maker
for problems or disputes. In the event of a major incident, the drilling
manager will join the incident response team and will be responsible for
technical decisions to bring the incident under control. May deputize for
the operations manager.
