n any project, there is a group effort and this book was no dif-
Iferent. I am indebted to many individuals for their help and
support in this project. What started out as a small self-pub-
lished book on management principles to use with our clients,
turned into a much larger project than I could have imagined.
Luckily, I had many people to help and assist me, but more
importantly, they are the ones who really helped to write the
bulk of this book.
Adina Genn has been a great partner to work with on this
project. Her command of the language and ability to say what
I was thinking proved tremendous. Maureen, my wife, and Lind-
say O’Conner, my administrative assistant, have been so sup-
portive of the project and were invaluable in transcribing all of
the interviews—more than 400 pages! Mary Glenn, editorial
director, and Ann Pryor, senior publicist from McGraw-Hill
have been wonderful to work with. Our agent, Bob Diforio, was
instrumental in steering this project along. And, a special thanks
goes out to Bob Waldman for his insights.
When the project first came to light, and I realized that I
needed some help from the McDonald’s corporation, I turned
to Fred Turner for his assistance. After explaining my dilemma,
he heartily endorsed the project, and in his typical way, got the
