             When the shuddering occurred, the ship was in a rough swell in open sea at 200 fathoms depth.
           The sea-water temperature was reported as -0.7  "C, with an air temperature of  -0°C.
             Approximately 5 hr after the observance of the initial cracks, a further vibration and shuddering
