Rodrigo was first hired in the early 1990s by a vocational reha-
bilitation firm that helped workers who were injured on the job to
change or modify their occupations and get back to work. He was
brought onboard as a job developer, someone who assists clients in
learning the job search skills—such as resume writing and inter-
viewing—to obtain employment. In some cases, the job developer
makes contact with employers to get interviews for the client
and/or to discuss how a client might engage in paid on-the-job
training in an unfamiliar field.
