106 Fundamentals of Ocean Renewable Energy

♦ Acoustic effects of a wind farm
♦ Other ecological data (fish, phytoplankton)
            ● Historical and cultural resources maps/data
            ● Statutes, regulations, and policies
♦ Territorial (state/federal) and international waters
               ♦ Coastal buffer zones
Because marine spatial planning is a long and comprehensive process, govern-
mental agencies (e.g. The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management in the United
States or The Crown Estate in the United Kingdom) take the lead and identify
potential lease sites for developers, after conducting necessary studies.
