less coal the nonprofit needs to buy.
Monitoring
The university is working with the community’s residents as well as its organizations. It has
a number of remote sites that track performance—in real time—of various metrics.
For example, one farmer with a windmill is generating power for his home. The
university is able to tap into the data coming from his windmill so it can study windmill
performance.
Sustainability
The University Center is an important indication of the university’s commitment to the
environment. However, the impetus behind building the center was an issue of the school
“walking the walk.”
