                      may also find applications in long-range target designation. For example,
                      airborne target designation will require higher powers (> 5 W) because
                      of the long distances between the aircraft and the target. Laser ignition
                      of explosives is another application that removes the need to use
                      electrical wiring for explosive chemicals and thus reduces the risk of
                      accidental detonation. The laser beam delivers the required thermal
                      intensity  at  the  explosives  for  direct  detonation  and  eliminates  the
                      need for other chemicals that were once used to trigger the explosion.
                      This technique also eliminates the toxic waste.
