          ARNETT, PETER
It was his interview with Saddam Hussein, however, that lead to criticism by
other journalists. Arnett justified his position as he had during Vietnam: the
public had the right to know as much as possible, and under the First Amend-
ment he was permitted to tell it as he saw it. When he left Iraq in mid-1991
(he and the Iraqi government had disagreements over what news would be cen-
sored), he was praised by several news organizations for his stellar work as a
           war correspondent.
