               FROM RESISTANCE TO RENEWAL

          Building Your Leadership Team’s Commitment

We must all hang together; or assuredly we shall all hang separately.
                                               —Benjamin Franklin, July 4, 1776

Anticipate resistance to your efforts while planning for organizational
renewal. In doing so, you can build real commitment through your
management team. You will need to accomplish the following:

            ■ Identify those factors in your organization that will help and
              hinder your efforts.
            ■ Effectively overcome forces and factors that resist change.
            ■ Develop and implement a change strategy that works.
            ■ Learn from others’ failed change efforts to increase your chances
              of your success.
            ■ Deal realistically and effectively with the politics of change.
            ■ Understand Your Personal Political Inventory and what to
              do with it.

In this chapter, there is useful information about the following:
            ■ What you should know about your organization’s culture
            ■ Why people resist organizational change
            ■ Key behaviors and principles of effective organizational
              change efforts
