same with the five whose work you least respect (YLR). In parentheses
next to the five YMR and YLR codings, indicate rank on a scale of 1 to 5.
For example, YMR (5) indicates the person whose work you most
respect, and YLR (5) indicates the person whose work you least respect.
Column 6. The information in this column is the converse of column 5.
Your coding will depict the five people who you believe most and least
respect your actual and potential contribution. Use MRY for those who
you perceive most respect your work and LRY for those who least respect
your work. Rank order the individuals as you did in column 5.
Column 7. Identify up to five individuals who have access to very impor-
tant information that could affect your performance. Code with an INF
for information. You may also wish to rank order these individuals (for
example, INF (1), INF (2), and so on).
Column 8. Identify up to five individuals whom you perceive as having
access to critical or important resources other than information, such as
people, money, or materials. Code with an R for resources. Again, you
may wish to rank order the individuals.
Column 9. Using an SM (for support me), identify the three to five individ-
uals listed on your inventory that you most want to have on your side
(that is, supporters of your leadership efforts). You may already have the
support of some, and you may need to develop the support of others.
Now turn to Part 2 and pull your data together.

Integrate the information from Part 1 to assess your present political envi-

between two or more columns or the items within a column. A useful way to
do this is by completing one or more of the following unfinished sentences as
you review the information. Feel free to use any of the sentence stems more
than once. Try these:
