                      NEW LIFE INTEGRATION

Let us endeavor so to live that when we come to die, even the
              undertaker will be sorry.
                                               —Mark Twain

Time is at once the most valuable and the most perishable of all
              our possessions.
                                               —John Randolph, member of
                                                Congress 1799 to 1827

As women entered the workforce in greater numbers, work/life balance
became a popular term. It was meant to convey the relationship between
work and the rest of an employee’s life. Today, with the advent of cell
phones, PDAs, mobile computing, and globalization, the term no longer
applies. Work/life balance implies that both work and the rest of your life
are equal—equal in time and equal in importance. Since the lines
between work and home have been blurred substantially, you can be
working 24 hours a day, from anywhere. There is no such thing as
work/life balance. That is why we now use the more appropriate term
           work/life integration.
At various times in your life, different aspects of your life are more
important, require greater investments of your time, your energy, and
your focus. Many young professionals entering their careers are very
focused on their work. They need to invest significant amounts of time
in learning their new jobs and preparing for their professional careers.
