        Exercise will help you to understand and mitigate the overuse of your top
        strengths. This tool and exercise will be introduced in Chapter 4.


           12. Manage the impact of your moving up on your family, health, and
        time. To achieve a new life integration, you will need to juggle the challenges
        of your new role and the systems effect of these challenges on your family and
        personal life. Success in navigating your leadership transition is synonymous
        with your personal definition of life integration between career, relationships,
        family, and other personal life values. There is no one correct equation or for-
        mula that fits for everyone. Many leaders fail to achieve the integration and
        formula for success they want.
           Moving up will almost always disrupt the steadiness by which you work
        and live. The impetus that created the opportunity for your promotion can be
        abrupt or traumatic, such as a firing or forced transfer. Other transitions begin
        more gradually, such as with the desire for a promotion. In either case, the
        unrest caused by moving up can easily dominate your life until it is resolved.
        It can be a struggle to manage professional change and increased responsibil-
        ity while maintaining equilibrium in your personal life. In the process, you
        can be energized and revitalized, and you can discover strengths and abilities
        you never knew you had. Being promoted can also be troublesome and stress-
        ful if you let it or if it runs out of control. If you manage it well, it can be the
        self-renewing proving grounds for subsequent success. Chapter 10 provides
        important principles and several Just Promoted Leader Tools that will help
        you to deal with the constant challenges of integrating your work with all other
        aspects of your life when you are promoted.

        Here are some of the most important reasons why you and your organization
        should pay great attention to systematically preparing leaders to successfully
        and smoothly enter the organization. The goal should be to have a success-
        ful onboarding every time a leader is promoted and moves into a new lead-
        ership role.
