THE LESSONS

Always remember that great leaders are the stewards of their organi-
zations’ energy, giving all the people around them the boost they need to
accomplish extraordinary things. Fred Benson called this the creation of
a no-risk environment in which people are free to make mistakes, learn
from them, and grow professionally. Take a long look at yourself to see if
you are a leader like Nelson Rockefeller, who, as Schenk recalled, super-
charged those around him with energy so great that they came away as
buoyant as if they’d been filled with helium. Instead of being the type of
leader who sucks the energy away from others, resolve to be the kind of
leader who strives to bring passion and positive energy to the workplace
             every day.
