At the end of this chapter you should be able to:
➡ Understand two types of ICT that influence knowledge work and knowledge
workers – Knowledge Management Systems (KMS) and Enterprise Systems.
➡ Understand how Enterprise Systems have evolved from earlier approaches that
attempted to capture and standardize ‘best practices’.
➡ Recognize the constraining and facilitating influences of Enterprise Systems on
knowledge work and knowledge workers.
➡ Differentiate between channel/network and platform/repository KMS.
➡ Develop a critical appreciation of the role of ICTs as ‘Knowledge Management
Systems’.
➡ Recognize the difference between structural/possession manifestations of ICTs to
support knowledge work and processual/practice approaches.
