The human voice mechanism is capable of producing many sounds other than speech. Figure 5-2
shows a number of these sound spectrographs. Harmonic series appear on a spectrograph as more or
less horizontal lines spaced vertically in frequency. These are particularly noticeable in the trained
soprano’s voice and the baby’s cry, but traces are also evident in other spectrographs.
