“It takes a village to raise a child” is a beautiful African proverb to explain the
process of writing a book. There were so many people who have helped me in
one way or the other to put this book together and I am very grateful for their
             kindness, hard work, and support.
Elsevier Publishing Company is so professional that in almost 2 years after
I proposed this book it is finding itself on the bookshelf. It was a pleasure to
work with Sonnini Yura and Naomi Robertson. I was very pleased with their
promptness and support. They made the process so smooth that I would love
to work with Elsevier again for my next book project.
The students of MKM 503E Mechatronic System Components course at
Istanbul Technical University helped me to develop these ideas. It is due to their
hard work that this book came together as it is.
I would also like to thank my doctoral student, Majid Mohammad Sadeghi,
whose wondering mind always surprises me and who gave me ideas about this
book and criticized me the most, which I hope made the book better.
Finally, I would like to thank my family: my daughter Ann Ayse Yasam
Kececi, my son Yasar Daniel Kececi for their unlimited love, and my wife Anne
Adams Kececi for her patience and support.
I would like to dedicate this book to my father and my mother, who taught
me the importance of education and provided me the opportunity.
