supports we discussed earlier as you communicate your positive qualities
to employers. You need to demonstrate depth of laowledge and abilities
by going beyond short and superficial answers. You need to ask questions
as well as respond to those asked of you. At least 50 percent of the
conversation should be carried by you. If the interviewer is doing 70 to 80
percent of the talking, you will sense the interview is probably not going
well!
We are not suggesting that you tale control of the interview, but you
need not play a completely passive role either. Talung initiative is a
quality many employers prize in their employees. Indeed, many employ-
ers wish they could find more employees who would tale initiative.
Even with the best interviewer, you will need to ask questions.
Remember, you have a decision to male too. Are you really interested in
the job? Does it fit your goals and skulls? Will it give you the chance to
do something you do well and enjoy doing? Will it give you an opportu-
nity to move in directions you want to move? Use the interview situation
to get answers to these and other questions that are critical to your future.

Throughout this chapter and the remainder of the book we identify 101
of the most important questions and answers to interview questions.
Questions and Answers
Expect to be asked numerous questions about your background, personal-
ity, experience, laowledge, skulls, abilities, accomplishments, and goals.
While the exact combination of questions will vary with the interviewer,
you can expect several of the following questions to arise in most
interviews. The responses and strategies we present here are examples.
You must consider your situation and adapt these to reflect your situa-
tion. Don’t try to memorize answers, but formulate strategies for re-
sponding to various scenarios you may encounter.
Personal
Personal questions are often sensitive questions given today’s litigious
employment environment. This area of questioning sometimes includes
illegal questions.
