IHI Corporation has developed the Twin IHI Gasifier (TIGAR ), and the demonstra-

based on CFB technologies and steam gasification. Using East Kalimantan coal from

plant (Paethanom, 2016). If the TIGAR concept is successful, a future project in
Indonesia for ammonia production is foreseen (Kotake, 2017; Kumagai, 2017; Tani,
           2015).

           7.2.1.4.1 Celanese coal plant
In Indonesia, since the Indonesian government has an objective to make greater use of
the country resources to drive economic development, specifically using coals with
lower energy content, CTL projects are presented as an alternative approach. In this
context, the US-based company Celanese is cooperating with PT Pertamina to develop
a (subbituminous) coal gasification project. This proposes the gasification of up to
4 Mt/y of coal, predominantly for the production of 1.3 billion liters of liquid product
for use as fuel additive (Mills, 2016).

           7.2.1.5.1 Gwangyang SNG plant
In South Korea, POSCO, the country’s biggest steelmaker, has established a subsidiary
to operate an SNG business and is developing several coal-to-SNG plants. At the
