180 CHAPTER 17 Telecommunications – Internal and External
NOTES
1. Telecoms-based shutdown systems – where an unmanned installation is controlled
from a local manned installation – two radio-telemetry channels may be utilised,
provided the loss or corruption of the signal leads to the automatic operation of
the unmanned platform’s shutdown system after a short, timed period, unless the
(maintenance) signal is restored during that time.
2. On ‘not-usually-manned installations (NUIs) and renewable substation plat-
forms, the telecom package requirements will obviously be simpler, but facili-
ties must still meet national statutory and SOLAS requirements.
