Page 5 - Practical Power System and Protective Relays Commissioning
P. 5
Introduction
During my working experience of 28 years from the time I started work in
the protection and commissioning field I have collected the important and
essential information required to do this job by reading many books and
scientific papers, and attending numerous training courses. However, I still
struggled to find the required information, and therefore decided to collect
this important information in this field into one book as a guide for new
engineers starting in this field and also for experienced professional
engineers in this field to transfer their knowledge to the next generation. I
hope that this book will be useful for students and engineers, and I wish to
thank all those who helped me in publishing this book, including my wife
who encouraged me along the project.
This book consists of 23 chapters. The first 15 chapters deal with power
system component theory and testing. Chapter 16, Power System Fault
Analysis and Chapter 17, IEC 61850 Protocols Used in Protective Relays
Communication, and Chapter 18, Protection Relays, deals with the theory of
protective relays. Chapter 19, Protection Relays Settings describe protective
relay setting procedures, and Chapter 20, Protective Relays Testing and
Commissioning describe protective relays testing and commissioning proce-
dures. Chapter 21, A Guided Practical Value of Some Test Results Collected
From Actual Power System Testing at Site. Chapter 22, Final Substation
Primary and Energization and Loading Tests, which deals with the final tests
for substations before energization, and the final chapter deals with the time
scheduling and resource planning of the commissioning of substations with a
practical estimation of the substation commissioning schedule and resources
based on the standard commissioning tests that are required to be performed.
