Acknowledgments

Writing a book can be a long and often difficult process, even when you are working
in a productive team with valued co-authors. We have been pleased to have the sup-
port of a great publisher and many people in a supportive professional community.
The first edition of Research Methods in Human-Computer Interaction was pub-
lished in 2009 by John Wiley and Sons. We thank those who worked with us at Wiley
on the first edition: Jonathan Shipley, Claire Jardine, Georgia King, Sam Crowe,
Nicole Burnett, and Celine Durand-Watts. We are excited to be working with Morgan
Kaufmann/Elsevier Publishers for the second edition. We appreciate the efforts of
Todd Green, Meg Dunkerley, Punitha Radjane, and especially Lindsay Lawrence, at
                  Morgan Kaufmann/Elsevier Publishers.
The chapters of the book have been reviewed numerous times, by careful and
critical reviewers who have provided feedback to strengthen the content of the book.
Angela Bah, Louise Barkhaus, Julia Galliers, Hilary Johnson, and Joseph Kaye pro-
vided reviews of the first edition. We especially thank Maxine Cohen and all of her
students, who implemented the second edition in their Fall 2016 doctoral Human-
Computer Interaction class at Nova Southeastern University and provided many fan-
tastic suggestions. In addition to the formal reviews collected through publishers,
colleagues have provided informal feedback on specific chapters. We thank John
Bertot, Weiqin Chen, Beth Hanst, Kasper Hornbaek, Juan-Pablo Hourcade, Paul
Jaeger, Sri Kurniawan, Jenny Preece, Ben Shneiderman, and Brian Wentz, for their
feedback on specific chapters, both in the first and second editions. We greatly ap-
preciate the contribution of case studies in chapter 10, from Gary Moulton at Yahoo!,
and Laura Granka from Google. Jonathan and Heidi would like to acknowledge
the support of the Department of Computer and Information Sciences at Towson
University, and Harry would like to acknowledge the support of the Department of
Biomedical Informatics at the University of Pittsburgh in the development and prepa-
ration of this manuscript. Jonathan would also like to thank the Radcliffe Institute for
Advanced Study at Harvard University, which awarded him a 2016 summer fellow-
ship, to work on the second edition of this book. Finally, we would like to thank the
many supportive colleagues, researchers, teachers, practitioners, and students, who
have expressed their enthusiasm for the book, and encouraged us to work on writing
                  a second edition.
