It is seen that as a result of the use of single ion monitoring, the procedure is highly selective. The
recovery of the drug ranged between 65 and 70%. The minimum detectable level of contamination was
about 1 µm/kg of tissue which was quite adequate to confirm that a sample did not contain the drug in
excess of the tolerance level. A common analytical problem of importance in the explosives industry, is
the identification of stabilizer derivatives in an explosive material, the presence of which are an
indication of its age or stability. Many nitrocellulose propellants are stabilized with diphenylamine.
This stabilizer is thought to react with any N02 that is released during aging or decomposition, to
produce nitrated derivatives of the stabilizer.
