system places restrictions on the operating conditions that can be chosen for the capillary
electrophoresis. Consequently, some of the best CE tandem results have been obtained off-line, using a
hybrid fraction collector-transport interface. Capillary electrophoresis has also been successfully
coupled to both the mass spectrometer and the atomic emission spectrometer, using an inductively
coupled plasma interface. In addition, by employing very small sensor cells and coils, CE/NMR tandem
systems have also been demonstrated to be effective, sensitive, and provide results in which the
resolution of neither the capillary electrophoresis separation, nor the NMR spectra has been seriously
impaired.
