holding company An organization that has sufficient shares in other companies so as to control their
actions.
holiday A paid day of absence either standard for everyone (e.g., Fourth of July) or personalized (e.g.,
own birthday).
holographic will A handwritten will.
home country The location a person calls “home” based on birth or citizenship.
home entertainment Business expenses incurred at living quarters, which are typically reimbursed
by the company.
home health care Provision of hospital-type services at home, ranging from recuperation to long-
term care to terminal illnesses.
home leave The period of paid time during which those living and working outside of their home
countries are allowed to return for visitation.
home office A dedicated work site at a living facility that includes all appropriate office equipment
(e.g., computer, fax, and telephone).
homeowner’s insurance Payroll deduction for low-cost, mass-merchandized coverage.
home security system This could include window and motion sensors electronically connected to a
security service.
horns rating Everything is bad because of one bad rating.
hospice A facility providing services for terminally ill patients.
hospital A facility focused on the care and treatment of injured and sick persons on an inpatient or
outpatient basis.
hospital insurance Coverage for hospital charges.
host country The location where a person works, typically not his or her own home country.
hotel rooms In addition to travel, such rooms may be available for late-night work at the office.
housing allowance Additional pay to compensate for the additional cost of housing in host country
beyond home country.
hybrid change of control contract A modified single-trigger contract that permits voluntary termi-
nation with full benefits typically for a brief period after one year of change of control in addition to
being a double-trigger contract for the first two or three years.
hybrid pension plan A retirement plan that has both defined-benefit and defined-contribution features.
ideal pay plan A plan that has no disadvantages.

immaculate cashless stock option exercise See immaculate stock option exercise.
immaculate stock option exercise A cashless exercise with the optionee receiving the appreciation
in stock without having to undertake a broker loan. The net result is similar to a stock appreciation

improshare A type of gainsharing plan focused on reducing the hours to produce a quality product.
imputed income The value of a received service to be included for income taxes.
imputed interest Amount of charged interest below the applicable federal rate.
incentive Payment in cash and/or stock, typically in relation to specified quantitative performance
targets. Incentives are either short term or long term in nature. Short term covers measurement
periods of a year or less; long term is typically for three to five years.
incentive compensation Performance-dependent award for either short-term or long-term period.
