            plan  Document covering eligibility as well as terms and conditions of operation.
            plan administrator  Individual who ensures that the plan provisions are followed.
            plan assets  Securities and other assets contributed by employer and/or employee to be used to pay
            benefits under the plan.
            plan liabilities  Estimated payments in relation to funding methods used by the plan.
            plan participant  Individual eligible for plan payments.
            platinum parachute  A change of control contract that is more liberal than a golden parachute.
            plurality voting  Election based only on positive votes. See majority voting.
            point factor method of job evaluation  Comparison of each job with a number of factors or job
            requirements, assigning points for the statement most accurately describing the job. The total points
            arrays the job versus other jobs.
            point-of-service plan (POS)  Permits patient to decide whether to stay in the network or go outside
            at the time service is needed.
            poison pill  A takeover defense that increases the acquisition cost through the grant of preferred stock
            and/or warrants to buy additional shares at favorable prices.
            policy holder  Policy owner to whom the contract was issued.
            Ponzi scheme  When an individual pays interest on early investments out of the money from later
            investments, pocketing the difference.
            pool experience rated medical plans  Group of employees placed in a pool with employees of other
            companies.
            pooling of internal accounting  The combination of income statement and balance sheet of two
            merging companies permitted until mid–2001.
            portability  Retaining rights to a benefit upon separation of service.
            portfolio  The various types of securities held by an investor.
            position  A job with only one incumbent.
            position description  A job description of one person.
            positive correlation  Direct relationship of two values.
            positively skewed  A distribution on the X axis with the mean greater than the median, which in turn
            is greater than the mode.
            postcareer crisis  Belief after retirement that no future opportunities exist.
            potential dilution  See overhang.
            power of attorney  Transfer of right to sell and/or take on obligations on behalf of another.
            power of attorney (health care)  See health-care power of attorney.
            PPO  See preferred provider organization.
            PPSO  See premium-priced stock option.
            precedent  Previous decision used as a basis for resolving a current issue.
            preemployment physical  Medical exam before person is hired.
            preexisting condition  Existence of a mental and/or physical condition prior to new policy coverage.
            preferred provider organization (PPO)  A variation of the HMO permitting patients to opt out of
            the system at a greater cost.
            preferred shares  See preferred stock.
            preferred stock  Shares without voting rights (but usually with a prescribed dividend) that supersede
            common stock owner claims in a time of liquidation.
