About the Author
Bruce R. Ellig holds his BBA and MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where
he was elected Beta Gamma Sigma and Phi Beta Kappa. He retired at the end of 1996
after over 35 years of human resource experience, much of it doing executive compensation
work with Pfizer Inc. The last 11 of those years he served as corporate vice president with
worldwide responsibility four the total HR function reporting to the chairman and CEO
of the company. During that period he was also secretary to the executive compensation
committee of the board of directors.
Ellig has been a member of a long list of premier HR organizations and assumed leader-
ship positions in many of these including serving as the Chairman of tthe National Board of
Directors for the Society for Human Resource Management, an organization with well over
150,000 members. He has also served on the boards of directors for several companies and
their compensation committees.
As a speaker, he has addressed over 400 organizations on human resource and compensa-
tion issues, and he has been widely quoted on human resource matters in general and executive
compensation issues in particular throughout the world. Additionally, he has been interviewed
on national radio and television programs. He is also a noted author of over 90 articles and
six other books (in addition to having served on several editorial review boards).
Ellig has received numerous honors (including several “Man of the Year” awards) as well
as the cherished lifetime achievement awards from WorldatWork (formerly the American
Compensation Association) and the Society for Human Resource Management. He also was
among the first elected to the National Academy of Human Resources.
He is listed in the prestigious Marquis Who’s Who in the East, Who’s Who in Finance and
Industry, Who’s Who in America, and Who’s Who in the World.
