Definitions 431
Verification ‘The full range of checks and tests carried out to determine if all components,
subsystems, systems, and interfaces between systems operate in accordance with the contract
documents. In this context, operate includes all modes and sequences of control operation,
interlocks and conditional control responses, and specified responses to abnormal or emergency
conditions.’
Visible Light Transmittance T ‘The ratio of total transmitted light to total incident light. In
vis
other words, it is the amount of visible spectrum (380 to 780 nm) light passing through a
glazing surface divided by the amount of light striking the glazing surface. A higher T
vis
value indicates that a greater amount of visible spectrum incident light is passing through
the glazing.’
Vision Glazing ‘The portion of exterior windows above 2 ft 6 in and below 7 ft 6 in that
permits a view to the outside of the project space.’
VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) ‘Carbon compounds that participate in atmospheric
photochemical reactions (excluding carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, carbonic acid, metallic
carbides and carbonates, and ammonium carbonate). The compounds vaporize (become a
gas) at normal room temperatures.’
Wetland Vegetation ‘Plants that require saturated soils to survive as well as certain tree and
other plant species that can tolerate prolonged wet soil conditions.’
