Paleontologists (and geologists) memorize eras and periods
early in their careers. They often use a mnemonic device like the
following to remember the periods of the Phanerozoic:

Cold oysters seldom Develop Many Precious Pearls.
Their Juices Congeal Too Quickly.

You just never know what will get some people’s memories
going.
