This group of fossilized fish was found in the Green River Formation
in Wyoming.

Dinosaur bone hunter Edward Drinker Cope also collected exten-
sively in the area and published an important paper on fossil fish
in 1871.
Today, anyone visiting a “rock shop” or nature store will
likely find Green River fish fossils. Paleontologists (and amateur
fossil hunters) continue to hunt the fossils of fish, freshwater
stingrays, and rare birds near Kemmerer, Wyoming. Spots in
