LISTENING TOURS
Her friend and colleague Kristin Mannion describes
Hillary as “the best” at reaching out to people who are not
in agreement with her and convincing them that achiev-
ing the larger goal is more important than being defeated
by their minor differences. In Living History, Hillary said,
“As Senator, I tried to bridge the partisan divide by bring-
ing Republicans and Democrats together whenever I
could on issues ranging from homeland security to educa-
tion to defense. I’ve reached out to political opponents,
including a few who led the charge for my husband’s
impeachment!” She learned how to reach “across the aisle”
to find common ground in order to work together for the
good of the country.
Creating networks and making connections is not
always about reaching out to allies. It’s often about getting
out of your comfort zone and breaking down traditional
barriers to find a common purpose and set of intentions
that mobilize others to get the “right” thing done for the
“right” reasons.
I believe that there are two key things that separate suc-
cessful business leaders from those who fail:
• The mindset that they cannot do it all alone
• The ability to build networks and alliances that pro-
vide them with both invaluable guidance to overcome
obstacles and the necessary support to achieve criti-
cal goals
