In addition, differences in remakes can also be indicative of cultural
changes. Film studios often produce new versions of older box office
successes, feeling that they can also duplicate their earlier commercial
success. As an example, A Star is Born has been made three times: in 1937
(starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March), in 1954 (with Judy Garland
and James Mason), and in 1976 (with Barbra Streisand and Kris Krist-
