3.3.6 The Gibbs adsorption isotherm
Willard Gibbs (1928), in his comprehensive treatment of the thermo-
dynamics of systems at equilibrium, supposed that the 'adsorbent is
inert in a thermodynamic context. The Gibbs function for a mobile
adsorbate (an adsorbate which is not localized at particular adsorption sites)
