P. 18

Preface

In recent decades, energy consumption is increasing daily all over the world, which
leads to environmental pollution as well as hampering future fuel security. One of the
key tools to tackle this situation is an alternative fuel that is renewable, biodegradable,
and emits low amounts of pollutants. The main objective of this book on Advances in
Ecofuels for a Sustainable Environment is to provide industries and academia–aca-
demics, researchers, practicing engineers, technologists, and students–with recent
developments in the field of environmental friendly ecofuels. The book will primarily
focus on recent developments in the field of bioenergy technology, clean and low
emissions, sustainable energy, energy efficiency, and energy, environmental, and eco-
nomic sustainability. It will be a valuable resource to undergraduate, honors, and post-
graduate research students in the field of renewable energy technologies. The themes
of the book will include but are not limited to:
           l Bioenergy sources and technologies
l Ecofuel extraction and conversion technologies
l Prospects and the scope of implementation of biotechnology
l Energy system and efficiency improvement in process industries
l Application of biofuel and environmental benefits
l Biofuel future and community impact
The book will help develop an understanding of the relevant concepts and solutions to
global issues to achieve ecofuel as an alternative energy for environmental sustain-
ability in medium- and large-scale industries.
The fundamental challenge facing the energy sector is meeting the growing energy
demand in sustainable, environmentally friendly, efficient, and cleaner ways. This
book will be a collection of extensive and in-depth research and analysis on technol-
ogies, resources, energy efficiency improvement, environmental sustainability, and
applications of clean and sustainable energy. The book consists of 17 chapters based
on advances in ecofuels for a sustainable environment. A summary of each chapter is
           given below.
Chapter 1 introduces the general background of the topic and the importance of
potential ecofuels and biodiesels with a focus on the transport sector. It also highlights
the significance of prospective feedstocks and sustainability aspects of using ecofuels
as an alternative fuel. Finally, the chapter gives an overview of the contents and briefly
outlines the structure of the book.
Chapter 2 discusses the current role of ecofuels; more specifically, biogas, biodie-
sel, bioethanol, and their feedstocks, focusing on the social issues and sustainability of
current policies and their future prospects in regard to the environment. The role of
