performance characteristics while reducing the emissions. Finally, a study that rec-
ommended banding the ecofuel, fossil fuel, and alcohol as a fuel to fulfill the future
energy demands is also included in the chapter.
Chapter 14 presents an investigation to find the novel ecofuel that can be used as an
alternative fuel for diesel engines. It is reported that the custard seed can be used to
produce annona methyl ester (AME) biodiesel, which can partly meet the demand and
is not an edible oil. Research on annona biodiesel shows properties equivalent to that
of the diesel fuel used in the present investigation. It also reports its superior properties
when compared to that of other available ecofuels. Emission characteristics has also
been discussed for direct injection diesel engine in this chapter.
Chapter 15 deals with the current issue of rising greenhouse gas emissions and
environmental pollution that have had detrimental effects on the ecosystem.
A study that identified the development of alternative sources of energy that can par-
tially replace fossil fuels, without major modifications, in existing engines is of prime
importance. Studies also suggest that among many ecofriendly fuels, biofuels have
been found to be promising candidates that can effectively substitute for diesel in
CI engines because their use as fuels serves dual purposes of reduced toxic exhaust
emissions and safe disposal of residual wastes from food industries. A comparative
study was made on the engine performance and emission characteristics of the diesel
engine using biodiesel and alcohols. In addition, gaseous fuels such as compressed
natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas, biogas, and hydrogen gas that have been used
in dual fuel mode in CI engines for better combustion and reduced emissions are dis-
         cussed in the chapter.
Chapter 16 deals with an interesting topic on commercial prospects of ecofuel as a
new horizon for future scopes. An analysis shows incredible outcomes for future pros-
pects in terms of energy security and environmental sustainability. The study identi-
fied that ecofuel can create a new energy market and more employment opportunities
         for the next generations.
Chapter 17 explores the environmental sustainability and socioeconomic impacts
of ecofuel. The social, environment and economic goodness have been considered as
the key indicator for the sustainability aspect of ecofuel. Key socioeconomic impacts
for ecofuel production system, including the feedstock, are investigated in perspec-
tives of climate change. Overall, by desired socioeconomic and environmental means,
it is analyzed that ecofuels are highly valuable due to their economically beneficial
indicators and will help in environmental sustainability.
All the chapters were peer reviewed and the authors addressed the reviewers com-
ment and suggestions. The editor also reviewed the authors justifications to address
the reviewer feedback. Finally, the revised manuscript has been thoroughly checked
by the editor before the contributions were accepted for publication.
The editor would like to express sincere thanks to all the authors who are highly
appreciated for their excellent contributions to this book. The editor is also thankful
to all the reviewers, colleagues, and well-wishers for their inspiration and support
from the beginning of the book to its completion. The editor would like to express
gratitude and thanks to Sharmin Sultana for her unbelievable sacrifice, endurance,
cooperation, and support in the successful completion of this book.
